Comics and Charities!

One cool thing about being a comic artist, or an artist in general, is that you can lend your skills and services for good causes. One of my favorite good causes is 'Comics for Cures' which is a sketch-card auction that benefits the American Cancer Society. I participated in it last year and the auction raised a total of $6,000. What you do (or how it was last year, I'm still waiting for email confirmation regarding this since the website has limited information right now) is you send them your address via email, and they send you a set of blank sketch cards. You draw on the cards, send them back, and the cards are all collected together, showcased and auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. This year's show is on April 3rd, so be sure to send them in before that date!

Another good cause I heard about today from the Seqalab podcast is "Cat Odes"
"...Cat Odes is a comic anthology dedicated to helping out one of the worlds favorite house pets - the cat! The best part about this book is that a majority of the proceeds will be donated to ASPCA®!"
You can donate comic pages, having to do with cats and that are family friendly, and they will be published into the book. I'm going to try to give it a shot, my schedule permitting. The deadline is March 1st.

Let me know if anyone is going to participate in these! :D

Sketch Dump #2- Life Drawing, ATCs and sketches

Guess who's scanner is working! 8D
(One NSFW drawing near the end of this post-male frontal nudity)

These were actually done a little bit before Christmas. I enjoyed drawing Alencia with the holly and honey nut cake. For some reason really old or traditional European takes on Christmas and Yule make me really cheery for the holidays. I think it's because there isn't any commercialism in imagining loved ones around a fire place enjoying traditional, simple food and each other's company.

Kale ATC set. The last one is actually incomplete as I have yet to decide on a back ground for it. Kale's card is actually painted with a bright bronze acrylic paint. I wanted a Byzantine feel to it. I was also going to write something on her flag but I may just leave it. Also for some reason I felt inclined to draw Evander, the usually bright and cheery bard, looking very sad. I'll have to do a happier one later to balance this one out.

Hanna ATCs by ~Spork-Bunny on deviantART
An ATC set I did for a comic artist, Tessa Stone, in honor of her comic "Hanna is not a boy's name." I LOVE this comic. FEIRCE.

My WWA character working as a Burlesque dancer. I was mainly testing out costume ideas. I went for a more vintage pin-up feel with her outfit here.

(NSFW) NUDE SOCA SKETCHES

I like this one a lot because its' the most precise out of the set for that night. It was done with .01 micron pen and no pencil. I also like that you can see the previous sketch through the paper, which was done with a brush pen. The pages of this sketchbook are very thin, but I like them.

While at home I started doing sketches of things in the room to fill a whole page with. This is my parents living room. (Like a collage sketch)

Published

A few weeks ago I was contacted on flikr and asked if I would submit one of my photos I took of Maymont park to possibly be published in "Schmap Richmond Tenth Edition" which is a guide about Richmond. I said sure and told them how I wanted to be credited (since they asked). I got an email today saying that my photo was chosen and can be viewed here
Looks like it will be a part of an iphone app. Cool :)

Here's the photo by itself:

Poster WIP

Have a poorly lit WIP photo!

New cover/poster art for Kale comic. I don't like the old cover anymore :/
I think some of the anatomy is a bit screwy, like Kale's legs. My eyes are tired right now so I'll take another look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes and edit/finish it.

My scanner is still out of commission but my parents are visiting me this Saturday and will be bringing the installation disk with them. Then I shall scan things! :D I have some sketchbook pages mostly. I should have done some comic pages over the weekend but didn't. I'll try to this weekend. I've also got some 'Or Maybe Not' scripts so some of those comic pages may be coming up. I'm enjoying my classes pretty well but I don't get to see my friends a lot since I don't have any classes at our department building. I'm also trying to lay off the Mountain Dew lately so my energy level during the afternoon has gone down. I've been coping tho. Speaking of which, I need a nap. More art to coming soon!

Happy Early Birthday Sarah!

A drawing I did of Sarah's WWA RP character, Perry. I adore drawing him and this contains inside jokes. And he's missing a canine tooth but I think I did the wrong one :P ooops. I meant to draw this for her ages ago but her birthday is on the 1st of February so I did it as an early B-Day gift.

Done with Copic makers and Sakura micron pens. And for some reason the pens were smearing with the Copics which has not happened to me before. I guess I need to invest in some Copic multiliners :/ Good thing my own birthday is around the corner, I can justify buying them.
